(openPR) - Magdeburg: LAGOTEC GmbH presented at the 9th symposium on “Bacterial Genomics and Ecology in Wernigerode, Germany, its newest activities.
More than hundreds of scientist and users came together to talk about trends in microbial ecology. Recent advances in a variety of methods have been presented. Further insights into microbial community networks come from advanced microscopic and molecular techniques - how bacterial populations colonise surfaces, communicate with each other, share substrates, interact with their hosts and exchange genetic information.
Noticeable were a lot of interested parties from industry. One issue is how bacteria, slime or biofilm growth in industrial constructions can be measured and stopped before problems occur. This challenge is one of the aims of LAGOTEC GmbH. LAGOTEC started its business with the launch of the DEPOSENS ® Sensor - a system for the detection of microbial deposits in pipes and tanks. Beside this topic another focus of the company is to identify microbial populations to obtain disinfection strategies.
Chief executive officer Lars Teichmann explained: “With this work it is possible to disburden the environment and many companies will save a lot of resources. Especially branches like paper industry and companies with large cooling water systems pay annually millions for biocides and disinfection.
LAGOTEC provides you with its experiences on the field of biofilms solutions for the challenges of microbial plant safety. Our innovative online measurement technique detects deposits like biofilms or inorganic contaminations. With this technique our costumers from power generation industry and pulp & paper are able to improve their product quality and process stability. The sensor system developed by LAGOTEC detects the deposits on the site of formation, on the inner wall of tubes. This helps to reduce the costs for biocides and downtimes of the plant and safes the environment.
