UK ENERGY SAVING COMMENTS ON 'GREEN' HIGH STREET RETAILERS

Energy & Environment
Press release from: UK Energy Saving
(openPR) - UK Energy Saving has posted a number of articles on its Blog, uk-energy-saving.blogspot.com, in recent months regarding the environmental policies and initiatives of high street stores, and has now added details of a recent survey used by the BBC for their Money Programme on 28th June. The survey heralded the Co-op as the ‘greenest’ high street retailer following analysis of their carbon emissions, waste, food miles and ethical sourcing.

Retailers today are aware of the growing environmental consciousness of consumers and have been introducing various ‘green’ initiatives for their customers. Waste packaging in particular has become a hot topic, and this was one of the areas explored in the recent survey. It appears that in this and other sectors, many retailers are trying to improve their environmental impact, but cynics are concerned that ‘green credentials’ to boost consumer appeal are the main aim of at least some stores.

The UK Energy Saving website, www.uk-energy-saving.com, covers areas such as energy saving, recycling, organic products and more, and feels, however, that, whatever the motives, some good must come from these green campaigns. Hayley Jones, Web Marketing Director for UK Energy Saving, made the following comments. “Without a doubt large retailers are very conscious of customer concerns with regards to the environment, and this will certainly play a part in their attempts to appear ‘greener’. But at least there is a move in the right direction. Certainly more needs to be done, and hopefully media coverage such as that by the Money Programme will increase awareness of some of the areas which need addressing, but consumers must also play their part. Not only can we choose where we shop, we can also make conscious decisions about which produce we buy based on areas of concern such as origin and packaging.” Hayley Jones makes the point that “the environment is everyone’s problem, and we all need to do our bit to reduce the negative impacts of mankind on the earth.”
