Dresden, Germany, July 18, 2012 -- Today, Biotype set the 1st of August as date, on which its latest product, Mentype® MycoDermQS, will be launched as full In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVD). On the recently held 18th ISHAM in Berlin, Germany, Biotype has initially introduced its multiparameter analysis. This product represents the first commercially available molecular diagnostics identifying, at the same time, in total 21 dermatophytosis causing pathogens. This clearly revolutionizes conventions of currently applied dermatological diagnostics.

Numerous dermatologists will be delighted to now having the opportunity to exchange a tedious and complicated diagnostics by an accurate “one man – one day” approach. Time-wise, the modern multiparameter PCR-analysis allows a commanding lead of 4 weeks. Due to multiplex-technology clear and reliable evidence about dermatophytosis causing pathogens, even on the species level, will be brought in a one working day approach. Importantly, diagnostic standardization will become possible to perform. Moreover, due to the rapid and reliable analysis an early and specific therapeutically intervention will be enabled, which in turn contributes to reduce numbers of antimycotic resistances and adverse reactions. Thus, this 80% increase in working-efficiency should not only be attributed to time savings it can generally be considered as major gain for dermatology.

A clinical evaluation study towards sensitivity and specificity of the test was performed and clearly demonstrated that even minimal amounts of specimens serve as robust basis for distinct pathogen determination. This particularly becomes importance during summer-time in which the risk to develop the athletes food is highly increased. Ring worm infections for example can easily be caught from public swimming pools or showers and require an accurate therapy for fast recovery. The DNA-based straight forward IVD test gives immediate and definite genetic evidence of causative pathogens, thus, raises the opportunity to promptly initiate a targeted medication.
