(openPR) - September 21, 2005 -- Instead of knights in armour on white steeds coming to the damsels’ rescue, it’s Tigers coming to Knights’ rescue – but there’s still a fairy tale ending.
Under 16s club, Knights was formed over six years ago by Liz Jones and Liz Clark; more recently, the club has enjoyed a successful couple of seasons, coached by Reda Ibn-Tahaikt. Last year, the club’s two teams took the Third Division of the Cambridge League by storm: Knights 2 took second place, while the first team were crowned kings of the Third Division.
Having won the Third Division last season, the first team was all set to compete in the Second Division this year. Unfortunately, despite the success, the club was finding it financially difficult to keep going. Instead of hanging their heads, giving in and folding though, they looked for a partner and a new home, and chose the mighty Tigers, who have won the Cambridge League for the last four years.
Knights are already training hard with their new stable mates, readying themselves for the 2005/6 season. And they are still looking forward to competing in the Second Division. They have brokered a deal with Tigers, which sees their first team still competing together as Tigers 3 in the First Division for the first half of the season. After that the team will begin to fully integrate into Tigers, so you'd better watch out, because come January you could find yourself up against a GB U15 player in Tigers 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5!
With Knights joining forces with Tigers, that means the club has five teams competing in the Cambridge League this season – and three of them are in the first division! – which begins on Monday 3 October.
