New Audio Program Helps Parents and Teachers of Kids with Asperger Syndrome
Press release from: Asperger Strength
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (June 28, 2012) Asperger Strength: How to Best Help Kids with Asperger Syndrome to Thrive, a new audio program by Melisa Genaux, M.Ed. and Kathie Keeler, L.C.S.W., presents a wide range of research-based strategies and proven methods to help children with Asperger Syndrome (AS) to succeed at home and at school. The content is specifically designed for parents, teachers, counselors, speech-language pathologists, and school psychologists. Presented in a compelling interview style, the nearly eight-hour program also comes with a 78-page outline, which summarizes and expands on the audio content.
The program is divided into eight sessions: The first session provides information about how the characteristics of AS are linked to specific learning and behavioral issues. The next two sessions contain practical strategies for improving communication, social, organization, self-regulatory, and academic skills. Three sessions are dedicated to creating lasting behavior change. Common issues, such as arguing, meltdowns over changes in routine, and classroom disruption, are all addressed. Proven methods for establishing effective consequences for misbehavior are presented in concert with the best techniques for promoting improved behavior.
The seventh session centers on the critical areas of anxiety and depression when they co-occur with AS. Guidelines are provided to help parents know when and how to seek help, should these issues arise. In the last session, the focus shifts to preventing, recognizing, and treating caregiver burnout, topics not often addressed in training materials on Asperger Syndrome.
The authors created Asperger Strength to share years of professional experience in a convenient format that is personable, instructive, and entertaining. Melisa Genaux works with school districts across the country in the areas of Autism Spectrum Disorders, behavior management, and social skills training. She presents at conferences and workshops for educators and parents, and provides consultation services on program development and individual student case management.
Kathie Keeler is a licensed clinical social worker with extensive expertise in the areas of family counseling, depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol addiction, and caregiver burnout. She is the founder and director of Resolutions, Inc., an organization that provides a wide range of counseling and social services.
Asperger Strength is currently available as a nine-CD set at AspergerStrength.com and at Amazon.com. It is also available for immediate download in an MP3 format at AspergerStrength.com.
