Gardere Expands Mexico/Latin America Practice With Addition of Partner Juan Alcalá

Press release from: Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP
PR Agency: Androvett Legal Media & Marketing
AUSTIN – Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP is announcing the addition of Juan M. Alcalá as a partner in the Firm’s Austin office where he will head Gardere’s Latin America litigation and dispute resolution practice. Formerly of King & Spalding, Mr. Alcalá focuses on international arbitration and litigation.

Mr. Alcalá’s distinct familiarity with the Latin American market strengthens Gardere’s Mexico and Latin America Practice, which is already prominently ranked in the 2012 edition of Chambers Latin America: Latin America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.

Mr. Alcalá represents U.S. and Latin American clients in a wide range of cross-border disputes, including several high-profile matters such as the Chevron-Ecuador multi-billion dollar litigation. He was recognized in the 2012 Latin Lawyer 250 guide as a leading lawyer for the region.

“I am impressed with Gardere’s commitment to growing a coordinated Latin America practice, its established success in Mexico, and its focus on the emerging area of international disputes,” Mr. Alcalá says. “I am excited about the opportunity and challenge to contribute to the Firm’s strategic expansion and vision.”

In addition to his Latin America focus, Mr. Alcalá’s domestic litigation, trial, and appellate practice will complement Gardere’s Austin office and Firm’s litigation expertise in business torts, complex lending transactions, copyright and trademark disputes, and product defects, among others.

“Juan will be a tremendous asset to the Firm and all our clients involved in cross-border business,” remarks Steve Good, Gardere’s Managing Partner. “After being one of the first U.S. law firms to open a full-service Mexico office in 1992, we now have Mexico and Latin America expertise in all our locations in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Mexico City.”

Mr. Alcalá received his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Yale University.

Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, an Am Law 200 firm founded in 1909 and one of the Southwest’s largest full-service law firms, has offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Mexico City.
