Arch Coal Inc Lays Off 750 Workers; Need for Hound.com Ramps Up
Press release from: Hound
PR Agency: hound
June 22, 2012 - Pasadena, CA - No industry is safe in this economy and that's been proven by the just announced lay offs at Arch Coal, Inc. The company is one of the largest producers of coal in the world and still, they have to lay off 750 employees across Appalachia, including Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky.
It has been difficult for companies like Arch Coal to stay in the game because of a growing desire for sustainable energy sources and inexpensive means of producing electricity. As demand declined, budgets had to be cut, leading to the need for mass lay offs. The majority of laid off workers will be coming from the Kentucky coalfields.
The company is doing whatever it can to stay afloat in this current economy but the rise in unemployment certainly won't do anything positive for recovery. Most people will look to newspapers and advertising for future job opportunities, but positions promoted in these ways are often inundated with applications, minimizing your chances of getting hired.
A sound alternative is to use a site like Hound.com. This site is subscription based and offers listings only from employer's websites. Many of the positions listed aren't promoted anywhere else, which means just a select group of people has access to them to apply to them. This dramatically increases your chances of getting hired.
There are many jobs in the Hound database related to the energy and mining industries, so it's highly likely that you'll find something your area. With a subscription, you can also apply to a variety of jobs all within the confines of the site, so you don't have to worry about application organization, either. In this economy, you need every little advantage you can get, and that's what Hound.com offers.
Hound.com got its start in 2005. Purchased by Harrison Barnes, the site was eventually rolled into the Employment Research Institute site network in 2008.
