IOLAN Firmware v4.4

IOLAN Firmware v4.4

NASHVILLE, TN—June 27th, 2012— Perle Systems, a global provider of advanced serial to Ethernet and secure device networking solutions, today released IOLAN Firmware Version 4.4 for all IOLAN Terminal Servers, Console Servers and Device Servers. This firmware offers several new features enabling the use of cellular technology to access serial console ports on equipment that is in a remote location without access to Ethernet or a phone line.

“Perle is committed to safeguarding each customer’s long-term investment in Perle equipment,” says Al Davies, Al Davies, Director of Product Marketing at Perle Systems. “By continued product development and new firmware releases, we ensure our products evolve with the current and future technology demands of our growing customer base.”

With the release of Firmware v4.4, IOLAN SCS Console Servers installed in a location without access to Ethernet or a phone line can use a wireless USB modem for out-of-band management. IOLAN SCS Console Servers come standard with a PCI Interface Slot, and can, with the simple customer installable addition of Perle’s USB Adapter Card support a 3rd party wireless USB modem stick. This allows a network administrator to obtain a reliable connection to manage and monitor remote IT assets.

IOLAN Firmware Version 4.4 also includes enhancements to the implementation of Network Time Protocol (NTP), LDAP BASE parameter, Strict Host Key Checking and UDP ARP optimization.

IOLAN Firmware v4.4 is available as a free download from Perle’s website for all customers.

If I ever find myself in the remote Alaskan interior, I would like to meet Mike Spooner, Telecom and Infrastructure Technician at the Sumitomo Pogo Mine. Why? This man is a story teller. A good story teller. So good, that he can make a story about setting up a networked virtual serial port extremely entertaining. Okay, I sense your doubt, and I don’t blame you. There can’t possibly be anything more
