Estonian fintech askRobin introduces a free credit score inquiry service in Mexico that does not affect scores

The Estonian-founded financial services platform askRobin launched a free credit score inquiry service called “Know Your Score” in Mexico in collaboration with one of the largest credit bureaus in the country.

askRobin is a financial services marketplace for “underbanked” customers, operating in several Latin American countries, including Mexico since 2017. Last year the company picked up $1.7M dollars in venture capital investment to develop the functionality of the financial services search engine that now offers free credit score consultations, starting in Mexico.

The new credit score inquiry service was developed in collaboration with Círculo de Crédito one of the largest Credit Information Companies in the country. It is calculated using a simplified version of a traditional credit report that allows repeated credit queries without affecting the user's overall credit score.

A free credit report every 12 months is common in the Mexican credit market with each additional inquiry negatively affecting the user's credit score. But according to Rain Sepp, co-founder and CEO of askRobin, checking one's credit score is just as important as taking your blood pressure. The company is on a mission to change the general negative mindset towards credit bureaus. With the new free credit score functionality, the askRobin platform aims to help “underbanked” customers understand their credit score and encourage them to improve their ratings.

“The new opportunity to regularly keep an eye on credit reports helps users to regain control of their credit score, allowing them to create and restore their credit history," explained Sepp. According to the founder, understanding the direct link between higher credit scores and lower interest rates is essential to drive the change towards gaining access to customized financial products of traditional banks to save thousands of dollars a year on high interest loans.
