Press release from: School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc.
PR Agency: PRMG
Kings Park, New York — School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI) has announced that registration is now open for the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Summer Day Camp, which is being held in cooperation with Dowling College. The camp will run from July 23 to July 27 at Dowling College, located at 150 Idle Hour Boulevard in Oakdale. This summer camp is designed for children ages 9-18 and is meant to inspire Long Island students to become interested in science, technology, engineering and math.

There will be beginner and advanced levels for FIRST LEGO League (FLL) campers, as well as sessions for high school robotics campers.

Each FLL level will be divided into teams who will build and program robots to perform tasks. There will be a competition on Friday, July 27, to which parents and friends will be welcome to attend.

High school students will learn all of the systems that comprise a large 120-pound robot and will actually program and work on existing robots. This camp is designed for incoming freshmen, sophomores and students at all levels who haven’t played an active technical role on a high school robotics team.

The day camp will run each day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Campers should arrive at 8:45 a.m. Children who are dropped off earlier will be brought to a supervised location, but such transportation plans must be made in advance.

Registration is $450 per camper and includes everything except lunch. Campers should bring their lunches each day

Information and registration options can be found at www.sbpli.org.

School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI) was founded in 1984 by Fred Breithut with the goal of developing partnerships between local high schools and businesses that would provide students with practical experience and curriculum development, while helping the business community develop its future workforce. Over 100 partnerships have been formed. In 1999, SBPLI brought the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics program to Long Island, where 14 high school teams participated. Since then, the FIRST robotics program has grown to 50 teams, with over 2,000 students participating in FIRST Robotics and LEGO League programs on Long Island each year.
