Pfronten, 13 June 2012. The new version of the ITIL® - ISO 20000 Bridge helps IT organizations and IT Service Providers to develop ITIL 20000 compliant processes and serves as a guideline during the preparation for the ISO 20000:2011 certification audit.

In a highly competitive market, many IT service providers take advantage of the opportunity to prove their capabilities in the field of IT Service Management by seeking an ISO 20000 certification. Very often, an ISO 20000 certificate is even a requirement if you want to be considered in a call for tenders.

IT Process Maps GbR developed the ITIL® - ISO 20000 Bridge, which supports IT service providers in preparing for the certification. It identifies the ITIL processes which should be introduced in order to comply with the 147 requirements of the current ISO/IEC 20000:2011 standard.

The "Bridge" is now available in a completely revised edition, following the publication of a new version of the ISO/IEC 20000:2011, Part 1: Service management system requirements (ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011) standard. Since 1st June 2011 this version is mandatory for all organizations seeking to obtain an ISO 20000 certification. It is possible to continue using the previous version ISO/IEC 20000-1:2005 until 31st March 2013, however, only as a basis for audits and re-certifications.

With the new ISO 20000:2011 version, ISO 20000 and ITIL - in particular its latest edition "ITIL 2011" - have again been better harmonized.

An important new feature is the introduction of the term "Service Management System" and the relating focus of the standard on the concept of SMS.

Furthermore, the definitions given in the new ISO 20000 version have been clarified and the new standard better aligned with ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001. In addition, the requirements for the governance of processes operated by third parties have been revised and others for the design and transition of new or changed services added.

The ISO 20000 standard continues to define the requirements for the service management processes of IT organizations. However, it does not describe how to design these processes in practice. This is where the ITIL® Process Map can be of great benefit: Just like ITIL 2011, this ITIL reference model, which has been developed by IT Process Maps and is used worldwide by a number of renowned customers, has been aligned to ISO 20000:2011 and contains well elaborated ITIL processes, e.g. in the form of Visio diagrams or ARIS process models.

This makes the ITIL® Process Map with its add-on for ISO 20000 initiatives (the ITIL - ISO 20000 Bridge) perfectly suitable for the development of ISO 20000 compliant processes for the IT organization.

The Bridge shows in a clearly structured and easily comprehensible way how ITIL and ISO 20000 inter-relate. For each requirement from ISO20000:2011 Part 1, it is explained which ITIL processes can be used to meet the requirements and how these processes should be designed in practice. Thus, the user is provided with a guideline to support him in the preparation for the ISO 20000:2011 certification.

Just like the ITIL® Process Map, the ITIL® - ISO 20000 Bridge has successfully passed the official review by APM Group Ltd. (http://www.apmgroupltd.com) and has been awarded the "ITIL® Licensed Product" logo.
