UK Smartphone Market Will Continue To Soar Ahead Says TechSci Research
Press release from: TechSci Research
Excellent network and broadband speeds, well established retailer’s network and easily offered Smartphone contracts are influencing British consumers to buy a new Smartphone.
The Smartphone industry in UK is at a turning point as Smartphones are now more reasonably priced and pervasive. Industries are merging as market giants such as Apple, RIM, Nokia, Google are becoming direct competitors in the battle for the Smartphone consumer. The next challenge for companies will be withstanding the intense competition and sustaining growth. The top 3 players in the UK Smartphone market; Apple, BlackBerry and Samsung capture nearly three quarters of the overall Smartphone sales which leaves a very small room for other competitors. Since the ratio of Smartphones to basic mobile phones is growing very rapidly around the world, consumers in UK have become highly addicted to this widget. As a result, UK Smartphone market grew almost triple fold between 2008 and 2011. At present nearly 50% phones in the UK are now Smartphones and this ratio is expected to reach nearly 80% by the end of 2017.
According to recently published report by TechSci Research “United Kingdom Smartphone’s Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2017” Smartphone’s market in UK is expected to grow with the CAGR of around 23% between 2012 and 2017 which is anticipated to drive the market value to US$ 4.3 Billion by 2017. Earlier, Smartphone’s were generally seen as enterprise devices with a limited number of features with a high price. The market was barely covered with few Smartphones from HTC, Motorola, etc. which had very limited capabilities. The Smartphones actually became popular in 2007, when Apple Inc. launched its first generation iPhone in June 2007 which gave a whole new definition to Smartphones. The company sold over 1 Million iPhones in just three months which became the most successful launch of the decade. From that time, the global Smartphone industry has been transformed with most modern technological advancements which have powered Smartphones with incredible capabilities.
“In our day, consumer expectations have been raised for Smartphones which can surf the web capably and support a series of multimedia functions. Companies especially Apple and BlackBerry have been exceedingly successful to offer their products tailored to the consumer needs which in turn has led an oversize demand from consumers across the globe. As a result, the global Smartphone shipments grew more than double fold between 2008 and 2011”, said Karan Chechi, Research Director at TechSci Research.
“The competition in the UK Smartphone market will intensify further and companies who would focus on innovation & successfully utilize scale economies would be able to survive the competition and sustain their growth for a longer period of time. Most prominently, delivering what consumers want will turn out to be in company’s good turn”, said Mr. Chechi.
