MILTON KEYNES, May 31, 2012 – Legionnaires Disease, a type of pneumonia that can be contracted by breathing in mist from water that contains the bacteria, is one of the risks that come along when water re-circulation systems, such as fountains are left untreated. To reduce this risk, Hydra International Ltd, global provider of aquatic water treatments, formulated a multi-functional steriliser for fountains and other water features where water is re-circulated.

“Hydra Fountain Clear is proven to wipe-out 99.9% of the Legionella pneumophila population, the pathogen known for causing Legionnaires’ Disease,” said John Edgar, Director of Hydra International. L. pneumophila thrives in temperatures between 25 º– 45º C and can travel airborne at least 6 km from its source. Though the disease may occur at any time of the year, the risk of outbreaks is higher in the summer.

Although the steriliser will not cause any harm to pets or animals that drink water treated with it, the use of Hydra Fountain Clear is not recommended in water features with fish, plants or invertebrates.
