UAE Ministry of Environment & Water Opened the Inaugural Global Water Oil & Gas Summit
Press release from: The CWC Group
Under the patronage of
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum
The inaugural Global Water: Oil & Gas Summit brought together leading experts from the energy and water sectors to examine effective water management solutions in the oil and gas industry. The event tackled two global issues particularly critical to the Middle East region - energy production and water conservation.
The opening session saw HE Dr Mariam Al-Shenasi, Undersecretary, UAE Ministry of Environment & Water along with Taher Diab, Director of Strategy & Planning, Supreme Council of Energy giving a strong overview of the strategic partnerships that are critical in both industries. This set the tone for sessions to follow looking at both Water Treatment and Produced Water handling technologies. Environmental concerns are a critical factor in planning new projects as highlighted by NASA, Saudi Aramco, Shell and Water Standard.
The day finished with the Global Water: Oil & Gas Awards presented by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum and held under the support of the Ministry of Environment & Water. Bauer Resources won Project of the Year for the Nimr oil field project in Oman and AES Arabia won Company of the Year with their continued support in water management to assist oil production throughout the UAE region.
The second day began with the International Desalination Association (IDA) chairing an interactive session looking at the role of desalination and the water/energy nexus that continues to occur which will bring the industries closer together. Extracting oil from mature fields and the role of America’s Shale exploration boom gave further insight into the importance this Summit will play in future years. The gathering concluded with a session hosted by DOW Water & Process highlighting their innovative solutions for managing limited water availability.
The CWC Group was proud to be partnered with the UAE Ministry of Environment & Water, Dubai's Supreme Council of Energy and the Government of Dubai and was supported by Global Water Intelligence, International Desalination Association and the Produced Water Society.
With over 150 senior delegates, 40 speakers, oil and gas company support, Government level backing and a strong delegation of water executives, Global Water: Oil & Gas 2012 certainly delivered the platform in order to see this summit grow for next year’s summit.
