New eSENS Safety Electronics Successfully Integrated in Force Sensors
Press release from: Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH Hirschmann Mobile Machine Control Solutions
A first: Hirschmann Mobile Machine Control Solutions (MCS) has succeeded in integrating its eSENS Safety electronics in force sensors. Thanks to this successful adaptation, the eSENS Safety force sensors of the provider of reliable and future-proof Mobile Applications are available as prototype samples from now on – only the delivery time of the individually required measurement bodies needs to be taken into account. The series launch – including the fSENS family of standard tension load cells – will be in the third quarter of 2012.
The highly acclaimed world premiere of the eSENS Safety electronics took place at SPS/IPC Drives in November. The concept underlying the modular eSENS platform allows for adaptations to perform different measurement tasks; it is set to constitute the future basis for safety-focused sensors from Hirschmann MCS. The world’s leading provider of safe load indicators for telescopic and lattice-boom cranes is now offering its customers even greater safety, speed, and flexibility.
The new force sensors were developed to comply with performance level d of EN 13849. They feature a standardized CANopen safety interface (according to CiA DS 304) for fault-free transmission of measurement values. This lets them be used “out of the box” as self-contained safety elements. Together with a PLd-certified safety controller – for example, from the Hirschmann iSCALE Control System family – this considerably reduces the work required to design and program a standard-compliant safety chain.
Internally, the electronics include redundant measurement inputs and corresponding diagnostic and cross-comparison functions. Improved look-up tables reduce linearity errors even further. The sensors of course also have CAN in automation (CiA) compliant application and device profiles.
All of these advantages predestine the new PLd force sensors for critical mobile systems such as safe load indication displays for cranes and hoists, scales, and force measurement systems for vehicles and ships. They are available as complete fSENS standard products or custom-tailored for a wide range of special applications.
Company Profile:
Hirschmann Mobile Machine Control Solutions (MCS) is a business unit of Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH, a company of the U.S.-based Belden Inc. Group.
Hirschmann MCS is the world market leader in safe load indication systems for telescopic and lattice-boom cranes and the system provider of innovative mobile automation platforms for all applications involving rough environmental conditions. The company is setting new standards in meeting safety requirements and in the product categories of sensors, controllers, consoles, and software for mobile machines and applications – across all industries.
Hirschmann MCS produces and sells product and system solutions for manufacturers of mobile machines and equpiment. It has 130 employees in Ettlingen, Germany and another 20 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (in the United States), and 300 staff work at a joint venture in Xuzhou, China and a sales office in Shanghai.
