BMI Is Faulty Indicator of Body Composition, Recent Study Claims
Press release from: Business School of Happiness
PR Agency: IRG,LLC
A recent study by two New York physicians concluded that BMI is a faulty indicator of body composition. The BMI scores of over 9,000 people were compared with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans. A DXA scan provides a very accurate measure of body fat, muscle mass and bone mass. They found that according to BMI results, only 26% of participants were classified as obese, while 64% were actually obese based on DXA results.
“This is the perfect example of the inaccuracy inherent in BMI,” say boomer generation health experts Dian Griesel, Ph.D., and Tom Griesel, authors of the new books TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust (April 2011, BSH) and The TurboCharged Mind (January 2012, BSH). “There are many people who have more fat than they realize, because they are either small-boned, lacking in lean body mass or both. They are the skinny-fat people who often get a false sense of security from a BMI reading or their scale weight.”
“Everyone needs to focus on body composition, not scale weight or BMI,” say the Griesels. “Weight loss differs from fat loss. Most common dieting results in loss of lean body mass along with body fat, sometimes as much as 50%, which leaves one in pretty much the same condition as before, only lighter. This is unhealthy. The loss of lean body mass makes one unhealthier than before. Even worse is that if you gain weight back after dieting, you will gain more fat than lean body mass. Often as much as 90% of the weight that returns is body fat, which makes your new body composition much worse.”

Comments about openPR
OpenPR ist the nicest and most clearly laid out PR platform I have seen to this day. The press releases are displayed very nicely and clearly and without any unnecessary frills.
The updates are fast and the finished release looks appealing and is clearly legible.
Even with 16 years of experience one discovers new things from time to time.
Congratulations!
