Satellite-Fiber Integration and Other Highlights of SatCom Africa 2012

NewSat, an Australian satellite operator, will join African and international satellite companies at the 2012 SATCOM Africa this May. The annual show is one of the most anticipated trade exhibits in Africa. Jointly organized by Telecoms World Africa, Submarine Networks World Africa and The TV Show Africa, SATCOM Africa will gather top satellite players that develop, operate and invest in the regional communications industry. The event offers technology providers and end-users opportunities to grow their business contacts and enhance technological assets.
Steve Rich of NewSat will be available to give product briefings. NewSat's satellite and ground services span many countries around the world, and its coverage across Africa is expected to widen once it launches the Jaburi 1 satellite.
3i Publishing Editor Bradley Shaw and Middle East and Africa Regional Director Telecom Italia Sparkle Thierry Tormiet will tackle how to get maximum broadband access and return on investment. Diarmid Massey, Cable & Wireless VP for Carrier Sales, will explore the advantages of fibre technology in African setting. Radio Communications Bureau ITU Director Yvon Henri will share techniques on how to meet the demand for high-bandwidth at minimum latency. Mr. Tormiet and Mr. Massey will also be a part of the panel on "Fibre and Satellite – the cohesive solution."
Other keynote speakers will talk about user-generated demand for capacity, use of fibre in 3G and date service deployment, building vs buying SATCOM technology, benefits of infrastructure sharing and design and keeping reliability backup plan in case of cable failure, utilizing mobile TV to increase ARPU, keeping the competitive edge through local content development, integrating satellite into DTH business models for efficiency, monetizing regional satellite applications, role of the carrier in the mobile and the fixed broadband market and more.
Another highlight of the event is Speed Networking, a formal part of conference proceedings that allows business executives and representatives to meet and bond with another another.
