John Cabot University Graduates Largest Class in History as it Celebrates 40th Anniversary

John Cabot University, an accredited American university in Rome, will graduate 90 students this spring, a record-breaking number for the school. The commencement address will be delivered by the Rector of the State University of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, Dr. Mstislav Afanasiev.
John Cabot is the largest American University in Italy—and one of the largest in Europe—offering a full B.A. undergraduate program and attracting students from over 50 countries. Its unique location in Rome makes it an ideal setting for students from the United States, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America to immerse themselves in an international educational environment. John Cabot also offers its students a wide range of volunteer and internship opportunities in the Italian community.
The University will be awarding honorary degrees to Dr. Mstislav Afanasiev, Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata, and University Trustee and Judge Hon. William H. Martini.
This year also marks the 40th anniversary of John Cabot University. Founded in 1972, the University became the first American regionally accredited overseas liberal arts university in Italy. The number of graduates has increased by nearly 100 percent over the past two decades and the University continues to host hundreds of students from the United States who study abroad each year.
“Our degree programs give students extensive knowledge, experience, and understanding that launches graduates successfully into their careers,” University President Dr. Franco Pavoncello said. “It’s evident in our growing numbers that students value not only a strong academic curriculum, but also a school that brings together a range of cultures, thus creating young leaders who are well-versed in important international matters.”
Dr. Mstislav Afanasiev is the Rector and professor of economics at the State University of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation. John Cabot and the Russian University have a cooperation agreement that promotes business program collaboration in the areas of teaching, research, continuing education, and technology transfer.
The graduation ceremony is set to take place on May 14 at the Villa Aurelia in Rome, located on the Janiculum hill, along the Aurelian walls.
