Reliable Manufacturing adds steel to Hadeed’s culture of safety and reliability
Press release from: Reliable Manufacturing
PR Agency: RONIN
Saudi Arabia’s largest steel manufacturer, Hadeed, is rolling out an intensive workshop programme with change management consultants, Reliable Manufacturing, to help meet safety and reliability goals in its plant.
Hadeed, a wholly owned subsidiary of SABIC (Saudi Arabia Basic Industries Corporation), began its programme with Reliable Manufacturing last October, during its Technical and Innovation week which focused on improving safety and reliability in the organisation. Reliable Manufacturing conducted a workshop titled ‘The Manufacturing Game’ to increase team learning and enhance cross-departmental communications and decision making.
“The Manufacturing Game is a great way to instantly engage staff in the change-process and let them discover new ways to communicate and engage with each other,” observes Hasan M. Al-Abandi, Reliability Manager of Hadeed. “Staff began immediately applying the skills they learnt in the Game to real life issues within the organisation; we have already begun to see a cultural shift in attitudes towards safety and reliability.”
The Manufacturing Game involves simulations of real world experiences to recreate the challenges that face organisations in improving reliability, customer responsiveness, production output and safety. The 30 senior and middle management staff that took part in the initial workshop were able to simulate the experience of a five-year journey to world class performance in just two days.
The aim of the workshops was to ultimately improve safety, reliability and operations through cultural change and defect elimination. Early indications suggest the workshops are already having a positive effect.
Established in 1979, Hadeed is Saudi Arabia’s biggest Steel manufacturer, employing more than 2,800 people. The company is part of SABIC, the largest and most profitable non-oil company in the Middle East. It produces a range of products including rebar, wire, hot rolled strip, with a capacity of more than 5 million metric tonnes annually. Having entered a $435 million long term loan facility with HSBC Middle East last year, Hadeed will expand further with production from a new steel plant expected to start later this year.
Following the success of the initial workshop, Reliable Manufacturing is set to continue working with Hadeed in a series of further workshops, engaging more staff, and continuing to improve safety and reliability through the elimination of plant defects.
Reliable Manufacturing is a reliability-based change management consultancy, helping global clients from a wide variety of industrial sectors realise superior business results.
We are specialists in delivering performance improvement through the implementation of operations and maintenance best practices, which facilitate organisational cultural change. Our pragmatic approach delivers improved asset availability, reduced operating costs, improved HSE performance and increased employee motivation and satisfaction.
Change is delivered through tailored programmes, and we work at all levels of client organisations to equip the leadership and engage staff in the practices, systems and behaviours that assure outstanding operational performance.
