Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina participated in the Dorchester County School District 2 Raise the Bar for STEM Event in Hutchinson Square in Summerville, SC on Wednesday April 11th, 2012. Raise the Bar for STEM is an event to raise money and awareness of STEM in the local business community and get local business leaders involved in the program through donations and volunteering. STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math and is a program designed to enhance education and skills for students in Dorchester County District 2 Schools in these areas. The Raise The Bar event showcased all of the STEM programs in the different elementary, middle, and high schools. Each program had a table with teachers and students to explain and demonstrate what the students had accomplished with pictures and examples of their work.

Attorney Guthrie was impressed with the variety of STEM programs. Mr. Guthrie also liked that the STEM programs seemed to make science, technology, engineering, and math fun and interactive and that the students genuinely enjoyed taking part. Attorney Guthrie realized the importance of encouraging programs like STEM for building an educated community and productive workforce for the future. Mr. Guthrie donated his time to participate in STEM programs and mentor students and spread the word among fellow local business leaders to do the same.
