It's "hats off," or we should say, "hats on" to the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 5, at Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway with close to $2,000 in prizes up for grabs in the casino's inaugural “Run for the Roses Hat Competition.”

First prizes of $500 for both the "most creative" and "most fashionable" hats as selected by a panel of judges will have winners literally flipping their lids! Second prizes for each are $250, and third place winners check in with $100 apiece.

Those wishing to enter should check in trackside at the raceway between 1:00-4:00 PM to register; the judges’ review will be at 4:30 PM. The winners will be announced at 5:00 PM.

And everyone's a winner with Empire City's free $2 exacta box for the Derby (a $4 total wager) also on Saturday. The first 500 Empire Club members to visit the Gotham Palace main promotions booth starting at 4:00 PM will receive the two horse exacta box. The “most exciting two minutes in sports” just got even more exciting!
