The highest happiness on earth is marriage and even though the order may vary for any given year, a wedding anniversary is invariably the celebration of love, trust, partnership, tolerance and tenacity.

In America, couples celebrating Golden Jubilee of their wedding anniversary may be lucky to get greetings from the President of USA and similarly in countries like Canada, Australia etc. In UK the Queen from the Buckingham palace may be too happy to greet a couple celebrating such milestone wedding anniversaries. However, the authorities in India today have no time or scheme for greeting such couples and as such the nation is busy with sorting issues of date of birth of would be soon senior citizen and celebrating anniversaries of all kinds for never ending list of netas.

In India, such golden jubilee wedding celebrations have invariably been a quite affair with the couple going to a place of worship and eating a meal with near and dear. Lately, the trend is changing and such occasions are being celebrated with same spirit as that of the original happening.

One such couple, Sri Rajendra Prasad Dada and Smt Sushila presently at Pilani who got married on 16 April 1962 celebrated their golden jubilee anniversary on 16 April 2012 in a grand way in the elegant Gulab Rai Halwai Guest House. Apart from the family members, everyone who is a who is who at Pilani were present to greet the couple. The couple exchanged garlands and there was a short film show on the journey highlighting various “happenings” and “encounters” en route. Sri Harsh Vardhan Birla spoke on the occasion and well known sculptor from Pilani Sri Matu Ram Verma presented the couple with a glittering Shiva statue which is a replica of the 80 ft tall Siddheshwar Mahadev at Pilani.

Sri RP Dada is a well known senior citizen at Pilani who had graduated from the erstwhile Birla College with a B.Com. degree in 1962. He worked for various Birla firms at Kolkata and Jaipur and was back in Pilani in 1967 to set up the GRASIM Retail Depot at Shiv Ganga Market (popularly known as Connaught place of Pilani or simply CNot to GenNext). He has also been an investment advisor and tax consultant to whole generation of public at Pilani. He has also been playing a significant role as board member of several lead schools at Pilani. His wife Sushila is an alumnus of the Birla Balika VidyaPeeth (BBVP) and so are their daughter and grand daughter.

Sri RP Dada has played a stellar role in connecting with the alumni of his beloved Alma mater. For the silver jubilee celebrations of the BITS Pilani 74-79 batch held during Oct 1-3, 2004, Sri RP Dada was kind enough to bring the band team from Udayramji Padia Vidya Mandir school to welcome the passion packed alumni.

Sri RP Dada and Smt Sushila firmly believe that an anniversary is indeed a time to celebrate the joys of today, the memories of yesterday, and the hopes of tomorrow.

When you hear this golden couple saying that their wedding was many years ago but the celebration continues to this day, you get inspired and the nation and society can be assured that the institution of marriage is in safe hands.
