Before The Gold Rush: New Folk And Americana Music Night Strums Opening Chords In London
Press release from: Before The Gold Rush
Saturday April 21st 2012 will see a new monthly night of folk, Americana and acoustic music open its doors at the renowned live venue The Wilmington Arms in Clerkenwell, London.
The free to enter Before The Gold Rush promises to showcase the best in emerging and unsigned artists currently making waves on the burgeoning alt. folk scene in the capital.
Headlining the first night are the event's organisers Long Dead Kings, a five piece folk-rock outfit based in North London.
"We're aiming to create a thriving regular event for like minded musicians and bands to meet and form productive relationships, in addition to performing their music to new audiences, of course." vocalist Steve Watson said.
One model for the night is the now incredibly popular Communion, which acted as a launch pad for artists such as Laura Marling and Mumford and Sons and still continues forge a platform for new artists.
"We hope Before The Gold Rush will be similar in many ways," Watson added, "However, we feel that Communion has grown and also branched out to a level that is now just beyond the reach of a large number of new artists and bands. We hope that BTGR can become established as another proving ground for such performers."
Joining Long Dead Kings on April 21 will be talented South London troubadour Joe Wilkes, seductive alt. folk ensemble Patch & The Giant, and soulful Americana troupe Tommy Hinkley & The Wandering Horse.
Between acts there will be music from the likes of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Band, Richard Thompson, John Martyn, Bert Jansch, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, CSNY, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Fairport Convention, My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes, The Low Anthem, Midlake, AA Bondy, Bright Eyes, Bon Iver, The Decemberists and many many more.
Before The Gold Rush begins at 7.30pm on April 21, 2012 at The Wilmington Arms, 69 Rosebery Avenue, EC1R 4RL. Entry is free. Further nights are also scheduled for May and June.
