University Students go head to head in University of Bolton’s “Sports Fiesta 2012”

The University of Bolton Student’s Council and the Student Activities Department organized an integrated program of sporting activities around the theme "Sports Fiesta 2012" which drew a number of Universities from the Northern Emirates and Dubai.

The activities took place at UOB RAK Campus. Separate activities for male and female attendees included; badminton, basketball, chess, cricket, darts, tug-o-war, sprint race, football and volleyball matches, and other recreational games.

To coincide with the sports activities a group of student volunteers ran a “Carnival” that included 6 International food stalls all selling foods from around the world. Director Raj Nambiar visited the stalls and appreciated the hard work of the students. The students displayed an array of special foods from around the world and staged some hilarious games.

Commenting on the event, The UOB President said, "UOB's “Sports Fiesta 2012” was a celebration of sports activities aimed at including other student bodies from the Northern Emirates and Dubai.

Director Raj Nambiar said, "Sport is an important tool for building local and national unity and goodwill. It goes without saying that sport embodies the basic cultural and Islamic values of tolerance, reconciliation, cooperation and mutual respect."

The event was organized with the help of a team of student volunteers. UOB’s Dean of Academic Affairs and Development, Dr. Tony Auchterlounie said, "Volunteerism plays an important role in strengthening students' skills and abilities to organize and bring such events to fruition."

Marketing manager Conal Doherty said; it was great to see sporting enthusiastic students pitting their skills against rivals University from the Northern Emirates and Dubai here at our RAK campus.

In the concluding ceremony, Dr. Tony Auchterlounie distributed prizes and certificates among the winning teams and students.
