Hope International University (HIU) announces a record enrollment of 1,505 students for the Spring semester of 2012. A 35% increase from the Spring semester of 2011, which includes an additional 391 students, is unprecedented.

“The enrollment growth HIU has experienced in the past two years is greater than we had anticipated,” President Dr. John Derry said. “The recent restructuring into five colleges with each college having residential, online, and graduate programs has provided students more opportunities and greater flexibility to further their education.”

Breaking the 1,500 mark is a first in HIU’s history, which spans almost 85 years. In past years, enrollment totals have hovered around 1,100.

Although the economy has undoubtedly affected aspects of the University, President Derry’s leadership has served to focus efforts and call employees of the HIU community to a higher level of service and intentionality. “We have placed a major emphasis on quality student- faculty interaction and on excellent student services and have become recognized for these characteristics,” President Derry said. “What is most encouraging about this increase in enrollment is that the number one source of prospective students is referrals by alumni and others who are currently enrolled.”

Vice President for Enrollment, Teresa Smith, is pleased with the enrollment progress. “The admissions team has worked hard to accomplish this enrollment goal,” she said. “They have expressed excitement, and have been encouraged knowing that their hard work is paying off and making a difference in the lives of many students. “
