SBS Worldwide ready with fuel strike contingency plan

Press release from: SBS Worldwide
PR Agency: Image Line Communications
Supply chain solutions provider SBS Worldwide is working with partner carriers to ensure its customers’ businesses are not disrupted in case of a possible strike by UK fuel tank drivers.

SBS Worldwide ensures that all its carrier partners have contingency plans in place for a variety of scenarios as part of its contracting process.

It opened dialogue with its hauliers to ensure they were implementing the plans as soon as the strikes were announced.

SBS Worldwide Group Chairman Steve Walker said: “We would like to reassure our UK customers that we are taking all necessary steps with our partner transport providers to ensure that operations are maintained.

“All our road transport providers – from couriers to hauliers – are in the process of arranging the storage of thousands of litres of extra fuel at their depots to ensure they can continue to operate if the strike goes ahead.

“Above all, we want to make it clear to our customers that we will do everything in our power to ensure their supply chain operations are not faced with any disruption.”

SBS Worldwide also said it would be glad to offer advice and guidance to any companies that were concerned that their supply chains may be affected by the strikes.

Fuel tank drivers voted earlier this week to go on strike in response to a dispute over pay and working conditions.

No dates have been set for the strike to begin and Unite, the UK’s largest union, has promised to give seven days notice before any industrial action takes place.

There are hopes that strike action could be avoided - conciliation service Acas has stepped in to arrange talks between union bosses and the fuel transport companies.
