MEDIA ADVISORY Local Teens Demonstrate Engineering Know-How – Rebound RumbleSM” at the FIRST® Robotics Competition Regional Event

03-27-2012 05:00 AM CET | Associations & Organizations

Press release from: School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc.

/ PR Agency: PRMG
Who: Teen teams from 42 local school districts and eight teams from the New York metropolitan area, Pennsylvania and Ohio will participate in School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc.’s (SBPLI) Long Island Regional FIRST® Robotics Competition for an opportunity to win regional recognition for design excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and more, and advance to the FIRST Championship competition. The public is encouraged to attend, catch the excitement of this intense competition, and cheer on their favorite teams. Admission is free. (Participating schools are listed below.)

The 2012 “Rebound Rumble” robotics game is played between two Alliances of three teams each. Each Alliance competes by trying to score as many of the basketballs in the hoops as possible during the two-minute and 15-second match. Balls scored in higher hoops score teams more points. Team Alliances are awarded bonus points if they are balanced on bridges at the end of the match.

What: The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC®) is a program that challenges high school students — working with professional Mentors — to design and build a robot to contend in competitions that measure the effectiveness of each robot, the power of collaboration, and the determination of students. Teams in the Log Island Regional FIRST Robotics Competition will vie for regional awards and a spot at the FIRST Championship to be held April 25-28, at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Mo. The competition is part of FIRST, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology.
