Eastern Europe entrusts its energy independence to biogas

Eastern European countries, dependent on Russian oil and gas supplies, plan to develop biogas plants at city dumpsters and waste water treatment facilities at the nearest future. Biogas technologies provide a waste-free recycling solution and strengthen countries’ independence from imported fuels. While projects in Bulgaria and Poland are still at planning stages, Slovakia already has a biogas facility at an agricultural farm in Kamenica nad Cirochou ready for a launch.

As local information agency “Focus” states, Bulgarian government is inclined to substitute 85% of resources used for heating of residential premises with biogas. Specific quotas will be provided for transit of bio-methane through the national gas distribution network, indicates “Focus,” it will also be sold at preferential rates.

According to information provided by “Renewable Energy World” Polish government will carry on an ambitious project of building 2500 biogas plants by 2020.

“Currently Poland utilizes about 2 percent of its potential to produce biogas energy from agricultural waste. This potential, however, can only be fully utilized if the industry can overcome substantial, and sadly mainly bureaucratic, barriers to investment,” – comments Jagoda Sumicka, Trade Policy analyst, Trade and Agriculture Directorate, OECD.

A Slovak company ALLFINE s.r.o. started a biogas plant construction project in 2011. As company’s CEO Robert Hajčákon indicates, after a lengthy search, “Zorg Biogas AG” was chosen as a contractor. Biogas plant has two digesters with 2900 m3 volume each. As planned, it will process 50 tons of silo and 11 tons of waste per day to produce 990 kW of electricity.

About ZORG:

ZORG executes full range of engineering services within biogas industry. The company designs and builds biogas plants under German state-of-art technology and know-how license.

ZORG works on a global scale: company’s projects have been successfully implemented in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Latvia, Turkey, Russia, Moldavia and Indonesia.

Smartsourcing in Eastern Europe
In 2008 the outsourcing business of Eastern Europe was estimated at nearly $2 billion, representing just a tiny fraction of the global IT outsourcing market, estimated at about $386 billion. According to the Gartner Dataquest predictions, in the next four years Eastern Europe is expected to outstrip the rest of the offshore market concentrated mainly in the “classical” locations like India. By 2010 Eastern Europe’s IT outsourcing market share is
Arden Partners hails Eastern promise
Great Eastern Energy fanned the flames of investor enthusiasm for coal-bed methane when its house broker set a 500p price target on the back of the India-focused company’s recent drilling success and dramatically increased estimates of its reserves. Arden Partners could barely conceal its joy. “A sales agreement with one of the major steel plants in the [Indian] region, perhaps by mid-year, will demonstrate pricing, demand and deliverability,” it predicted.
