Testing textiles with Mecmesin equipment
Testing textiles with Mecmesin equipment
Mecmesin, the manufacturer of force testing equipment based in Slinfold, West Sussex, has released a short video of a visit to a local school. Mecmesin’s Sales Manager Declan Tierney demonstrated some of the companies’ products to pupils studying GCSE Design & Technology - Textiles.
The pupils saw how important it is to attach buttons, bows, sequins, diamantes and other adornments to textiles correctly, and how Mecmesin’s equipment is used by garment manufacturers to measure the force needed to remove them, ensuring that the garments are safe and do not pose a choking hazard, particularly to babies and young children. This process is known as “Test-to-Failure” or TTF.

The pupils had a chance to use two different TTF force testing systems, a MultiTest-d and a MultiTest 2.5-xt to “Test-to-Failure” some embellishments they has sewn onto some textile samples and were given an insight into the importance of Quality Control standards in the manufacturing process.

Mecmesin’s equipment can be used to test textiles to BS 7907:2007 – Code of practice for the design and manufacture of children’s clothing to promote mechanical safety.
