Royal Bayreuth, art glass, furniture, more will be sold March 24th by Woody Auction in Wichita, Kan.

(WICHITA, Kan.) – Four fine collections comprising over 500 quality lots of art glass, Royal Bayreuth, furniture pieces and more will be offered without reserve (everything sells, regardless of price) at an auction slated for Saturday, March 24, by Woody Auction. The event will be held at the Sedgwick County Extension Center in Wichita, beginning at 9:30 a.m. (CST).

The art glass pieces will feature brides baskets, pickle castors, a cruet bottle collection and Moser. Only a few furniture items will be sold, but one certain to attract attention is a dark oak dental cabinet with four drawers, one sliding tray, two doors and a hidden compartment, with a black onyx surface top. The 39 inch by 30 inch cabinet was made by Hamilton Manufacturing.

Four other lots are also expected to get paddles wagging. One is a rare 4 ¾ inch Royal Bayreuth (blue mark) figural penguin hatpin holder with pink, grey and cream tones (as shown in McCaslin Book I, page 46). Another is an equally scarce 6-piece ivory portrait set, with three portraits of historical figures in each 17-inch frame. Each 4-inch portrait is signed “David 1810.”

The third noteworthy lot is an extremely rare 6 ½ inch Findlay onyx syrup pitcher, in outstanding condition. The fourth top lot is a 42 inch by 12 inch marble and brass Sevres-style pedestal, artist-signed “Rochette” and in fantastic condition. The piece features a cobalt blue column with extensive gold leaf highlights and a beautiful full portrait of Queen Josephine.

Following are additional anticipated highlights for the auction, a preview for which will be held on Friday, March 23, from 4-6 p.m.. Internet bidding will be facilitated by Proxibid.com.

Fans of Royal Bayreuth will have much to choose from. Examples include a rare 4-inch figural owl hatpin holder; a 7 ½ inch figural standing trout water pitcher with nice coloration; a 9 ¼-inch figural tomato wall pocket; a figural rooster water pitcher in great condition; a 5-inch unmarked red clown figural pipe rest; and black/grey mark red clown figural match holder.

Pickle castors will feature a dazzling 12-inch piece with cranberry coinspot enameled decorated insert set on an elaborate Manhattan silver plate frame, with a finely decorated floral handle; and a very rare 12 ½ inch double pickle castor boasting two cranberry coinspot inserts with concave medallion sides and floral enamel décor, set on an elaborate Reed & Barton frame.

Another pickle castor worth noting is an 11-inch example with blue frosted art glass insert featuring an enameled fruit décor, set on a Rogers silver plate frame and with a unique lid. Also sold will be a wonderful 9 ½ inch Pairpoint four-piece condiment set consisting of two melon ribbed Burmese cruets and a pair of shakers set on a marked Pairpoint silver plate frame.

Brides baskets will be served up in abundance. Anticipated top earners include a 20 inch by 11 ½ inch piece with a cream satin ruffled trefoil-shaped bowl, enamel floral décor interior and exterior and Pairpoint #2693 silver plate stand; and a pink satin basket with herringbone mother-of-pearl melon ribbed bowl with green interior, set on a Wilcox silver plate frame.

Other brides baskets include a pink satin melon ribbed bowl with enameled floral décor and green interior, set on a Wilcox silver plate base; a star crimped melon ribbed apricot satin diamond quilted bowl with pink interior and gold enameled floral décor; and a square blue satin diamond quilted bowl with enamel bird and branch décor and Pairpoint #2265 silver plate stand.

Moser pieces will feature a lovely and tall 17 ½ inch green to clear art glass tankard with a completely decorated enamel floral décor; and an 8 ¾ inch cranberry tri-corner shaped art glass vase with heavy enamel floral and insect décor, with gilt metal figural feet. Also sold will be an 8 ¾ inch white, pink and yellow satin art glass vase with coralline overlay, a truly gorgeous piece.

Other art glass lots will include an 8-inch cranberry pillow-shaped footed vase with nice daffodil coralline décor; and a pair of 14-inch dark cranberry candle lustres with double prism rows, white enamel floral décor with gold stencil highlights. Silver will also be offered, to include an impressive 106-piece set of “Medici” pattern Gorham sterling flatware and chest set.

Rounding out just some of the day’s expected top lots are a 5 inch by 8 inch Nakara round hinged dresser box in a rare sea foam mold, with green and pink tones and a pink floral décor; a 6 ½ inch Mt. Washington Burmese melon ribbed cruet with original stopper; and a rare 5-piece figural bronze smoke set, with a tray, candlestick, matchbox holder and two waste bowls.
