ITALY RECOGNIZED AS PIONEER AND LEADER IN THE M2M AND THE INTERNET OF THINGS

Coming soon the 11th edition of M2M Forum, the European event - as always it will be held in Italy - dedicated to the world of machine to machine communication and the Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things is on stage in Milan. Great expectations for the M2M Forum, planned for the 3 May 2012 at the NH Hotel Fiera Milano. Since 2002 it is the first event for the world of communication between machines (M2M) and now the Italian event dedicated to the newly born Internet of Things.

The event will once again be the reference point for meeting and debate with international experts on the world of M2M/IoT: main topics will be the present and future scenarios of M2M/IoT, the dynamism, the rapidity of changes and all the latest news on the sector. The 2011 M2M Forum held in Milan gathered a business community of more than 600 visitors, with an exposition area of 29 sponsors and exhibitors coming from Italy and abroad. The important results of last year and the increasing interest in the M2M communication raise the expectations for the upcoming 11th edition.

"Cars, fleet satellite controls and anti-theft alarms are the most common applications of the M2M. The real challenge now is the management of the future Smart Grid, the connections that make use of different sources of energy - including renewable one - and where the user can also be the producer. Cost reduction and use optimization are the keys for a massive application of M2M/IoT solutions produced by companies that are 'Made2M in Italy".

The Internet of Things will have an important role within the M2M Forum: the web is increasingly becoming an interconnected network involving real objects and real places. It is integrated into all aspects of life and includes a world where people can be connected to any kind of object and objects can be connected with each other. This creates an enormous number of new services. Therefore, the M2M Forum will be the opportunity to summarize all M2M developments, future applications and market opportunities that the Internet of Things can create - also with the integration of services such as social networks and web 2.0 like Facebook and Foursquare – all in the world of the communication between machines and between machines and men.

Many topics will be discussed within the plenary session and the afternoon workshops. M2M for Smart Grid: Smart Metering will be the topic discussed in the dedicated parallel session. Italy is the leader in the future application of Smart Grids for the introduction and use of an Electronic Meter for electricity and gas in Europe. The Forum sessions will be dedicated to M2M solutions applicable to remote control and remote management of green facilities of energetic micro/cogeneration as well as energy distribution (e.g. batteries for electric cars). The Forum wants to offer an overview of the available M2M solutions to everyone who is responsible for the management of the production and distribution of energy coming from renewable resources and to those responsible for the reduction of energy costs.

M2M Forum has always presented - together with important associations of the sector - a status update on the technologies and the business opportunities that M2M operators can have in the primary vertical markets. In 2012 the focus will be on m-health applications for the improvement of the patient’s quality of life and on the reduction of health related costs, a very sensitive topic in Italy at the moment.

As noted from the last year edition, the M2M FORUM pays particular attention to the M2M Cloud solutions. This year a specific section of the conference dedicated to M2M solutions will be presented for the first time in the Cloud of Things.

The M2M/IoT is one of the applicable technologies for the future Smart City. These cities are technological and interconnected, but also sustainable, safe and comfortable; in a word they are "intelligent". After years of experimentation, projects and advanced applications seem to have finally opened the road to a process - encouraged also by future events such as Expo 2015 - where the cities and territories become intelligent. The M2M/IoT technologies will be the main instrument for the realization of these Smart Cities and this will be one of the topics that M2M Forum will discuss with institutions and media.

Therefore, let's plan to meet at the M2M Forum 2012 on May 3rd to better understand today’s market and the development trends of the Machine-to-Machine sector. The event is a milestone to assess the state of art of technologies and applications currently created in Italy, but especially to have a first look at business models and at the future challenges that Italian and foreign operators will have to face.
