Essential Facts about Home Health Care in Columbus Ohio
Press release from: A Better Quality of Life
(openPR) - Home health care in Columbus, Ohio mostly relies on the assistance provided by family members who are taking the role of caregivers. Such services are, however, not something anyone can simply and easily offer – even for the sake of elderly loved ones.
Similar to cities in other states, home health care is mostly dependent on the assistance provided by family members who are willing to act as caregivers to their elderly loved ones. Recent studies from the National Alliance for Caregiving show that approximately 65% of senior individuals exclusively depend on loved ones and close friends to provide assistance with their day-to-day living needs. 30% of families with elderly members rely, however, on additional help provided by paid caregivers.
With the country’s population continuing to age in a rapid pace, it’s natural to expect that more American families would have to come to terms with providing caregiving assistance to aging loved ones. At present, over 50 million Americans are already providing such services for either elderly members of the family or close friends who have reached their golden years. According to the U.S. department of Health and Human Services, majority of the elderly individuals receiving such care either has frail conditions or is suffering from a chronic illness.
If official statistics are to be believed, caregiving may come more naturally to women. One study shows that an estimate 60% of family caregivers is female, with the average amounting to females in their forties providing care for widowed mothers who are no longer living with them.
As the numbers of baby boomers increase, so does the demand for family caregiving. As such, the age for family caregivers is also getting younger and younger as even children have to learn how to provide for some of the simpler needs of elderly loved ones. In another study, approximately 1.4M children between 8 and 18 years old are already offering caregiving assistance to elderly loved ones. In such cases, 72% involve children offering assistance to either parents or grandparents. Thankfully, children are not the only ones in the family providing such care.
The exact age for elderly individuals requiring caregiving varies. For home health care in Columbus Ohio and elsewhere, you should expect15% of individuals requiring this type of assistance to be between 45 and 54 years old although 1/3 of such cases also involve elderly individuals who are already 65 years old or older.
Considering all the figures discussed above, it would be a good move for families to educate themselves about home health care in Columbus, Ohio as early as possible.
