(openPR) - Hometown to industrialist Birla family, located in Shekhawati Rajasthan, Pilani which glitters like a diamond in the educational map of India today is well known for various top ranking educational institutions, CSIR Laboratory CEERI as well as upcoming BrahMos Missile Assembly Project unit.

The Birla Education Trust – BET has a rich tradition of organizing Republic Day celebrations at the Birla School grounds in a grand manner at Pilani for the several decades. It is not an understatement if it is said that this celebration attracts spectators not only from Pilani but also from nook and corners of entire Jhunjhunu district.

The famous institutions from Pilani which participate include Birla Balika Vidyapeeth – BBVP, Birla School, Birla Public School and Birla Shishu Vihar - BSV. BBVP has an unenviable record having played the NCC band (popularly known as Pilani band) at Rajpath New Delhi on 26 January every year for the past 53 consecutive years. Present army chief Gen V K Singh is an alumnus of Birla Public School.

For the 63rd Republic Day Celebrations held on 26 Jan 2012, Chief Guest was Lieutenant General (Retd) Dr Mahesh Vij who is presently the Vice Chancellor of Shridhar University, Pilani. He has over 40 years of distinguished Army Service. He was the Military Secretary of the Indian Army & had also served as Director General Military Training and also Chairman - Joint Training Committee for the Army, Navy & Air Force.

For his distinguished services he was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM). Prior to joining as Vice Chancellor of Shridhar University, he was Director Army Institute of Technology Pune for over 5 years.

The celebrations this year included March Past by NCC as well as non NCC cadets from participating institutions, band display, mass P.T., colourful tableaus, Horse Riding display, etc. Unfurling the tricolour, Dr Mahesh Vij took the salute and inspected the parade. In his speech, Dr Vij spoke on the importance of ethics in youth and pointed out that those who think knowledge is power supreme must remember that Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful. A person educated in mind and not in morals is indeed a menace to society.

He also said that Ethics is all about knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do and reminded them in a lighter vein that Einstein’s theory of Relativity may apply in Physics but not in Ethics. No one has doubt that the wise words of Lt Gen Mahesh Vij inspired the entire gathering.
