(openPR) - CHANDLER, AZ (January 20, 2012) – Arvel Bird, internationally acclaimed violinist and Native American flutist, will pay tribute to the Arizona Centennial in a performance with the Chandler Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. on February 3, 2012 at the Chandler Center for the Arts, Hal Bogle Theater, 250 N. Arizona Avenue, Chandler, AZ. Performing original scores from his award-winning orchestral work Tribal Music Suite: Journey of a Paiute, Bird evokes the soul of North American history blended masterfully with a contemporary flair that resonates with his audiences.

With Tribal Music Suite, Bird looks to his Paiute Indian heritage and his Scottish ancestry for the story’s inspiration to create a symphonic work that is deeply emotional, inspiring, at times playful, and always a masterful fusion of Celtic and Native American influences.

“Playing with orchestras always inspires me,” said Arvel Bird. “This year is special because I am honoring the Arizona Centennial with the Chandler Symphony Orchestra, celebrating 100 years of statehood and the rich history of this state. I’m honored to be a part of the official centennial activities and bring a part of Native American culture to this concert.”

Although based in Nashville, TN, Bird considers Arizona home. He attended Arizona State University on music scholarship, later transferring to Champagne/ Urbana, IL where he studied classical violin with renowned Hungarian violinist Paul Roland at the University of Illinois. Bird toured with many musicians, from Glen Campbell to Loretta Lynn, before branching out into his own performances and his own unique musical style. Since then, his original music has evolved into a Celtic fusion that encompasses traditional Celtic fiddle, rock, contemporary Native American, folk, jazz, and classical.

With history again as his inspiration, Bird released his most recent album Titanic Centennial: Commemorative Special Edition in January 2012 that pays tribute to the 100th anniversary of the tragic maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic. The album features eight new compositions, along with three popular previously released songs, including a beautifully haunting violin solo and ‘A Capella’ vocal song. Titanic Captain Edward Smith, Father Browne, bandleader Wallace Hartley and a host of others who sailed on that fateful voyage come to life in a powerful, musically cinematic and an emotionally riveting performance that will immerse the listener in the sights and sounds of the tragic events in the North Atlantic in 1912.The hour-long musical voyage includes a spectacular 20-page booklet with factual stories and historic pictures of the people and the mighty ship Titanic. No doubt, this is Bird’s finest work to date.
