Press release from: White Plains Hospital

White Plains Hospital has welcomed two new Thoracic Surgeons to its group of integrated physician practices as of January 1st. Todd S. Weiser, M.D. and Cynthia S. Chin, M.D. have joined White Plains Hospital Physician Associates, a division of the hospital aligning physicians with Hospital services.

Drs. Weiser and Chin come to White Plains Hospital from The Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, where they both held positions as Attending Surgeons and academic posts as Assistant Professors of Cardiothoracic Surgery. “We are thrilled to welcome Drs. Weiser and Chin to White Plains Hospital, and feel very fortunate to have added such talented and respected surgeons to our outstanding cancer program” said Jon B. Schandler, President and CEO, White Plains Hospital.

Dr. Todd Weiser will serve as Section Chief of Thoracic Surgery at White Plains Hospital. He received his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed three separate residencies in Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery and Surgical Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital and the National Cancer Institute, respectively. His research and clinical focus is on the surgical treatment of lung and esophageal cancers, mediastinal tumor resection, pulmonary lobectomy, esophagectomy and thymectomy. Dr. Weiser is double board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery and his research has been published in numerous medical journals and scholarly papers over the past 15 years. He is the only surgeon in New York performing a minimally invasive procedure implanting diaphragmatic pacemakers in patients with spinal cord injuries and muscular dystrophies to decrease their dependency on mechanical ventilation and improve quality of life. Dr. Weiser has also gained regional recognition for his expertise in surgery for the trachea.

Dr. Cynthia Chin is double board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery, and her research has appeared in numerous medical journals and scholarly publications. Dedicated to treating thoracic malignancies, Dr Chin has significant experience in a wide range of procedures including open and minimally invasive surgical techniques. Her practice is aimed toward providing patients with the best oncologic procedure while limiting their discomfort and need to stay in the hospital. She will serve as Director of the Women’s Cancer Program Services for White Plains Hospital where she will oversee the treatment of esophageal, thymic and lung cancers in women as well as collaborate on other cancers focusing on specific gender concerns. Dr. Chin received her medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She completed residencies in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Mount Sinai Medical Center, respectively. She also obtained advanced skills in minimally invasive esophagectomy when she spent time as a fellow at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Chin is a recipient of numerous honors, including the 2008-2011 Patient’s Choice Award from the American Registry.

The offices of both Dr. Weiser and Dr. Chin are located in the Hospital’s Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center, the only freestanding outpatient cancer treatment center in Westchester County. The Dickstein Center houses the Lowenthal Infusion Center as well as two of the most technologically advanced linear accelerators for radiation therapy. The Cancer Program at White Plains Hospital has earned repeated commendation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement award.
