Cleaning of tool holders for greater precision

Weinstadt, 29. April 2020 - RoWi, the cleaning device for tool holder tapers, is available in a new version. This development from the system supplier KELCH GmbH cleans dirty tool holders before and after use in the machine tool. For the first time, the new version has a timer which controls the duration of the cleaning process. This allows the user to already perform another task while the cleaning is completed. The cleaning attachments for RoWi are available in all common taper sizes for HSK PSC and SK so that companies can flexibly adapt the drive unit to their needs. RoWi is available either as a portable workbench system or for direct installation into the machine tool.

"Regularly cleaned tool holder tapers help companies to ensure seamless and precise workflows in production, increasing machine service lives. At the same time they help to protect your machine spindles and tools," explains Viktor Grauer (B. Eng), member of the Executive Board and Head of Innovation Management at Kelch. The cleaning of tool holder tapers ensures change precision and process reliability before being inserted into the machine tool. It also maintains the run-out precision of the tool system, helping to reduce waste. Once inserted, cleaning removes emulsions from the tool holder tapers, which could result in resin formation if allowed to remain for longer, as well as swarf that could impair precision in future use.

Material-friendly cleaning
RoWi is characterised by an ergonomic design for safe and easy operation. It consists of a drive unit with an alternating current motor for approx. 65 revolutions per minute and various cleaning attachments with three brushes each for different taper sizes. RoWi exclusively uses abrasive bristles, which reliably remove the dirt, but do not cause any mechanical abrasion of the actual taper. The new timer is integrated into the sturdy housing. Even with frequent operation, RoWi saves valuable working time: apart from the occasional emptying of the dirt particles or replacement of the brushes, the system is maintenance-free and resistant to rust and cooling lubricants, so that no additional measures are required after use. Depending on the degree of dirt residue, RoWi can be operated with or without the appropriate Reflu cleaning agent, which preserves as well as cleans and, like the spare brushes, is available in Kelch's standard product range. The range includes exchangeable cleaning attachments for the taper types HSK in the sizes 32 to 100, PSC in sizes 40 to 100 and SK in sizes 30 to 50. Other sizes are available on request.

Drive unit in two versions
As a portable workbench system, RoWi can be placed anywhere and requires only a 220 V socket for the drive unit. Alternatively, Kelch offers the cleaning unit RoWi for direct integration into the machine tool magazine. Machine manufacturers can contact Kelch directly for machine-specific requirements. "From start to finish, our systems are geared to businesses and machine manufacturers - starting with removal from the tool storage system, installation with a shrink fit or assembly system, to cleaning, measurement and presetting," continues Viktor Grauer.
