CSI – Nihilent announces e-Governance Awards for 2010-11

Mumbai, December 2, 2011: The prestigious Computer Society of India (CSI) and Nihilent e-Governance Awards for 2010-11, for the period of April 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011, were announced at a grand function held at the 46th Annual Convention of CSI at Ahmedabad. Held for the ninth successive year, the awards are conferred with an aim of identifying and recognizing the best e-Governance initiatives in India in citizen / Business/ Government services at the State, Department, District and Project level.
The state of Chhattisgarh has won the award of excellence in State category, the district of Nanded in Maharashtra won the award of excellence in the District category while Chief Minister’s Office, Gujarat received the award of excellence in the Department category. 19 e-Governance initiatives were awarded under various categories. Two new categories titled ‘Award of Sustenance’ and ‘Special Award for North East States’ were included for the first time.
Chhattisgarh was awarded for its initiatives designed to achieve Government’s vision of creating an ‘e’nabled Society effectively contributing to the social and economic development of the State. The CMO of Gujarat has been awarded for its initiatives like ensuring ‘Environment-Friendly’ office and implementation of innovative ideas such as automated updating of appointment schedule once in 3 minutes for Honorable Chief Minister. Other winners include Pali district in Rajasthan and Ramabai Nagar in UP which received Awards of Appreciation for district category, e-Pass (Electronic Payment & Application System for Scholarship), Andhra Pradesh Award of Excellence in G2C category. The Special Award for North East States was presented to e-Panjeeyan System, Assam.
Speaking at the awards function, Mr. Surendra Kapoor, Convener of the Awards 2010-11, said; “The awards are an effort to encourage and reiterate the importance of good governance with the help of ICT. As there is a nation-wide demand for anti-corruption reforms and transparency in governance, e-governance can definitely help in bridging the gap. The winners of this award are a proof of escalating steps towards building an accountable and transparent government. We congratulate all the winners; they deserve recognition to their efforts.”
On the occasion, Mr. Robin Rastogi, General Manager Products & Strategic Initiatives, Nihilent Technologies said, “This is the ninth year of the award and we have observed growing interest of governments and private sectors in e-governance initiatives, over the years. The acceptance of technology in government processes has increased, but, there is still a long way to go. Our goal is to highlight the achievements, reward them and thus, emphasize on the advantages of adoption of technology in governance. Nihilent will continue to provide support in the endeavor by contributing in the growth of e-governance and hence, good governance in India.”
The selection committee consisted of professionals and practitioners from the industry, academia and government institutions. The selection process included visits by team of experts to sites to assess the project implementation and validated information on the actual status. The evaluation process was based on parameters categorized into Results, Enablers and Value Indicators framework and was designed to ensure that identification of ‘Finalists’ and ‘Winners’ were based on a transparent and process driven model.
