DbSchema 6.0 Database Tool Features New Utilities That Make Working With Databases More Efficient

Wise Coders Solutions announces the general availability of DbSchema 6.0, a powerful universal database tool. DbSchema is addressed to programmers, system architects and database administrators. DbSchema is a complete environment for designing and documenting the database schema, interacting with data via SQL editor, Query Builder or Relational Data Browse, and deploying the schema over multiple databases.

DbSchema Layouts

The database schema is represented in DbSchema using graphical layouts. This representation is the best way of understanding the relations between tables based on foreign keys. This relationship is the key factor in designing a high quality database schema. Many layout features are emphasizing the relationship, an improvement for a better design. Multiple layouts can be created, each as a different version of the schema, for the same or different part of it. Comments can be added for each table, column or layout.

Relational Data Browsing

Relational Data Browsing, one of the primary tools in DbSchema, is an amazingly simple and efficient data explorer. Data from multiple tables can be displayed at the same time, each in a separate window, by keeping track of the foreign keys. This is a tree-like approach of exploring data. Instead of getting a single result after querying some tables, the user will see multiple results placed in a single view. The great advantage to this is interactivity: tables can be added or navigated while the result is still visible. Relational Data Browsing has the flexibility and advantage of getting to data very quickly without writing SQL queries by dynamically deciding which information to display. It can also edit data, insert new records and display images or documents from the database.

Query Builder

The Query Builder can build complex queries with Group By clause or different Join types. The Query Builder is integrated in the DbSchema layouts, making editing queries possible by starting from the graphical representation of the schema. During query editing, the SQL text shows up in a preview, a great feature for those who are willing to learn SQL. The queries can be executed directly from the Query Builder.

SQL Editor

For tasks that require the SQL language, the SQL Editor can help. It features text auto-completion, query formatting, single queries as well script execution, explain plan chart, save of large results to file and more.

Deployment of Database Schema over Multiple Databases

DbSchema stores its own image of the schema in the project file, beside the schema created in the database. This way, the schema can be designed in DbSchema and than deployed over one or more databases. It can also reverse engineer the schema from one database, save as a DbSchema project file, continue to edit the schema and than compare and synchronize the schema with further databases. This feature is useful for projects where more than one database is required or where there are different databases used for development and production. DbSchema can then upgrade the schema on any database to the latest changes from the development database. It can generate the update scripts or directly modify the database.

Schema Documentation

DbSchema can create high quality printouts. HTML5 images can be generated out of the layout graphical representation of the schema. The HTML5 images are about 100 times smaller than a similar gif image, a perfect choice for documenting the database schema. Each table or column in the layout can be commented on and the comments will be included in the documentation.
