(openPR) - Martinsried / Munich, November 14, 2011: Model based software development constitutes worldwide an established approach when developing mechatronic systems in the automotive industry. This approach enhances product safety since ECU functions can be designed and parameterized based on models which behave like the corresponding real system. For students who intend to work for automotive OEMs or system suppliers, it is key to be experienced in dynamic systems and their physical models. However, creating realistic models for real dynamic systems requires huge efforts and does not allow students to increase their expertise quickly enough. ExpertControl from Germany enables students from all technical disciplines to increase their knowledge about dynamic models by using the first interactive Wiki for dynamic systems, called MiC – Modeling in the Cloud.
MiC calculates dynamic models from the system measurements (e.g. step response) by pressing one button only. With Free Access to MiC, students can explore several examples of systems from different technical areas including mechanics, electrical systems or thermodynamics. These systems may be analyzed with respect to differential equations, transfer functions, model order, frequency behavior, pole/zero maps and find out about analogies known from physics. Using MiC increases the understanding about dynamic systems in a way it would be expected from an interactive Wiki. Describing dynamic systems with models will be much more transparent in future, and students will be prepared much better for engineering tasks awaiting them in industry. MiC can be accessed via Free Access and via Premium Access. Premium Access offers uploading of own measured data for system identification and in addition, a GUI allows to design individual dynamic systems by defining the desired dynamics graphically. MiC´s Free Access allows accessing the permanently growing number of examples of systems and to download the corresponding simulation models. They are fully parameterized and ready-to-use for different simulation environments including MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW and RecurDyn.
