--Don't use the word "fired" around Popular Weekend Radio Personality Roy Gray, who calls his firing by Simply Gospel Communications an "urgent learning experience."
In fact, people who send Gray an email with "Urgent Learning Experience" in the subject line could make the guest list for "Roy's Urgent Learning Experience" Picnic in Southern California on Saturday, August 25, at a secret location.
"I truly believe getting fired is a celebration of sorts. It is an opportunity to take stock of your own personal areas of error and improvement, while challenging yourself to quickly apply all lessons learned to bounce back smarter, stronger than ever.
"Simply Gospel Communications is an outstanding organization with some of the brightest minds in television and radio, and I was fortunate enough to play a small role on a team of top talent. I wish them continued success.
"My personal public relations assistant Kathy Hanson is kind of new to radio and the rampant firings, but it's 'old hat' to me.
"I've chosen August 25 to treat inspirational music fans, recording artists and celebrities to wood-fired pizza and much more, because this is the day I will announce any new live weekend radio plans. In the meantime, I will be doubling the time I spend with my creative-genius son and playing as much tennis as my asthma allows.
"For the next few weeks, I will return only emergency calls and email, and will not be responding to inquiries about my urgent learning experience.
"Even so, I am again asking the general public from around the world to send their inquiries directly to me, instead of the radio station or Simply Gospel Communications. All email will eventually be answered.
