FORT WORTH, Texas – Attorneys from Texas-based Noteboom: The Law Firm are announcing a $1.75 million award for a firm client based on the past and future emotional distress caused by repeated instances of sexual assault by her stepfather.
In the ruling issued by 67th Texas State District Court Judge Don Cosby on Oct. 31, 2011, the victim’s stepfather was ordered to pay $1.75 million based on the malicious nature of his sexual assaults, which began when the victim was 10 years old and continued for four years. The perpetrator currently is incarcerated on related criminal sexual assault charges.
“This judgment shows that there are serious consequences beyond jail time for those who sexually assault minors,” says attorney Brian Butcher of Noteboom: The Law Firm, who handled the case on behalf of the victim and her mother. “As a part of the judgment, the court saw fit to include a $1 million award as punishment for the malicious nature of the assaults.”
Chuck Noteboom is the founder of Noteboom: The Law Firm, which regularly represents sexual assault victims in civil court cases against perpetrators and property owners.
“Our client bravely confronted her assailant in this case, and our team of sexual assault attorneys worked hard on her behalf to secure this victory,” Mr. Noteboom says. “Many sexual assault victims are unaware that they can obtain retribution by pursuing compensation from the abuser’s assets.”
Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1983, Mr. Noteboom also is certified in Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is the only personal injury attorney in Northeast Tarrant County to be named to the Texas Super Lawyers list every year since 2003 in Texas Monthly magazine.
