Great Falls, VA – epcSolutions, announces the debut of the first RFID-enabled Segway. The Segway uses the Motorola RD5000 Mobile RFID reader connected to a laptop computer to allow the Segway rider to read Gen2 RFID tags for any application in epcSolutions “Any Asset, One Network™” application suite.
The Motorola RD5000 is an all-in-one RFID reader designed for true mobility and mobile applications, the device provides real-time wireless LAN connectivity so assets are easily tracked as they move throughout your operations. The new Segway Personal Transporter (PT) represents the next generation in personal mobility technology. Combining the two technologies creates a unique asset management mobility platform.
“When you first see the RD5000 mounted on the Segway you think, ‘That’s cute,’ but when you stop and think about it the mobility platform can be used for asset management, inventory and even security applications and it’s fun to ride!” states Chuck Williams, CTO of epcSolutions.

The RFID-enabled Segway shows innovation in RFID applications using the Motorola RD5000 RFID reader. The demonstration at RFID Journal Live utilizes the RFID-enabled Segway for fixed asset management with epcSolutions’ FixedAssetManager application. The Segway can be driven into a location and can then scan all the tags at that location which creates an inventory report.
