(openPR) - IXXAT's Industrial Ethernet Module (IEM), which enables the fast and inexpensive connection of devices to PROFINET networks, has now been certified by the PNO in accordance with the conformance class B.
At the successful certification according to the IEC 61158 standard all requirements for the conformance class B were met. The certificate approves both, the conformity to the PROFINET standard and the trouble-free interoperability with other certified devices.

The IEM is used as a universal interface for the integration of different industrial Ethernet technologies and supports besides PROFINET also POWERLINK, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, sercos, and Modbus-TCP. The area of application is wherever intelligent devices such as drives, frequency converters, IO-modules, valves and other components of automation technology are to be equipped with Industrial Ethernet and for which flexibility and extendibility in conjunction with transparent costs are important.

The IEM is based on a powerful Altera Cyclone III FPGA and comes with an integrated 32 bit CPU, Ethernet controllers and with the required PHYs, transformers and RJ45 sockets. The 2-port Ethernet interface allows to easiely set-up ring and line topoligies. The module can be connected to the host system either memory-mapped via data/address bus or by using the SPI.
The protocol independent programming interface (host API) is specially designed to support different protocols with only slight changes to the customer application.
For the development and testing IXXAT offers an evaluation kit, which includes the IEM, a carrier board, a CPU module (including adapter board) as well as the host API and sample code (source code).

If the form factor of the Industrial Ethernet Module can not be used for integration into the customer's device, IXXAT offers, besides customized versions of the module, also a design-in solution. Furthermore, IXXAT also
develops fully customized solutions on a project basis.
