Press release from: MVTec Software GmbH
HALCON provides interfaces to more than 50 frame grabbers, hundreds of industrial cameras, and many standards.
HALCON provides interfaces to more than 50 frame grabbers, hundreds of industrial cameras, and many standards.
(openPR) - MVTec Software GmbH, Munich (Germany), has released a generic interface for FireWire cameras that supports the IEEE1394a as well as the IEEE1394b standard (with a transfer rate of 400 respectively 800 MBits a second). Thus, a wide range of FireWire cameras in combination with the approved machine vision software products HALCON and ActivVisionTools is now available.

FireWire is commonly used in industry as well as in consumer electronics. The new HALCON-Interface attends to the so called IIDC standard which refers to industrial applications and fixes how industrial used cameras transfer their not compressed data via FireWire bus. The used high performance driver supports all camera calibers and parameters provided by the IIDC standard and runs also under Windows x64 and Windows Vista. Furthermore, MVTec offers an according HALCON interface for Linux with comparable functionality.

To assure a high robustness, the interface was tested on different cameras of various manufacturers as Allied Vision, Basler, NET, Point Grey, Prosilica, Sony, The Imaging Source, and Toshiba Teli.

The interface is not only usable with HALCON, but also with ActivVisionTools, the easy-to-use software from MVTec. With ActivView, MVTec provides a first-class programming interface for free, a tool for image acquisition with easy image inspection and easy to use graphic user interface.

To test the new interface for free, it is possible to download the current demo version ActivVisisonTools 3.1.1 from the following website:
