BANGALORE, INDIA, September 20, 2011: MindTree Limited, a global IT solutions and Product Engineering Services Company today announced that it has attained Continua Health Alliance’s certification for its EtherMindTM IEEE-11073 Stack (Certification IDs 38 and 39) for connected health applications. The Continua-certified EtherMind IEEE-11073 stack is now available for licensing, enabling a quick and low-cost path for medical tablet and sensor device OEMs to build standards-based, and interoperable health systems over Personal Area Networks (PAN) or Local Area Networks (LAN).

MindTree’s IEEE-11073 stack is implemented in ANSI-C and is easily portable, providing operating system and transport abstraction layers across the Bluetooth Health Device Profile and USB Personal Health Device Class. The solution comprises of the IEEE-11073-20601 layer and a comprehensive suite of IEEE-11073 104xx manager and agent roles for a host of device specializations as per Continua v1.5 specifications. The stack’s compactness, maturity and completeness, allows consumer medical device makers tablet OEMs and smartphone OEMs to realize an easy path to commercializing Continua-enabled products.

The Continua Health Alliance is an international industry group of healthcare and technology companies working towards creating an interoperable health care system. Continua defines interoperable standards and specifications for various connected health systems and devices to communicate over PAN, LAN and Wide Area Networks (WAN). Bluetooth® and USB® are defined respectively as wireless and wired transport layers for PAN interfaces, and ZigBee® is defined for LAN interfaces. Bluetooth Low Energy is expected to be added as another wireless transport layer for the PAN interface in the next version of Continua’s guidelines.

MindTree is a Contributor Member of the Continua Health Alliance and has provided valuable inputs to both the IEEE-11073 standards group during the development, verification and certification of its IEEE-11073 stack. MindTree’s implementation will be used as a Reference System by multiple Continua certification labs to ensure interoperability of new OEM products under certification.
