rational motion’s rapid evolution is not sparing internal structures either. Quite the contrary: the Cologne-based engineers and programmers have taken up the challenge of certified quality management – complete with everything this entails. A comprehensive review and adjustment process is currently under way – only this time the focus is not on prototype development but on internal organization. The company aims to attain ISO 9001 certification by the end of 2011.

Hardly two years in the business, rational motion is already fully engaged in the process of certifying its quality management according to international standards. The objective is to attain acceptance of its quality management system according to the stringent DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 requirements. The audit by certification agency TÜV Rheinland is already scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year.

Until then, this means rigorously scrutinizing all work processes to identify gaps or weak points in the organization, its efficiency and sustainability to ensure that rational motion complies fully with the criteria of the standard. ISO 9001 focuses on customer orientation, management responsibility, systemization of work processes, employee involvement and the implementation of continuous monitoring and optimization mechanisms.

“All the procedures and principles that make up the ISO standard are fundamental to the attitude that prevails within our corporate culture and how we see ourselves,’” explains Robert Marusic, Managing Director of rational motion. “So I can honestly say that we are not undergoing this rigorous audit just to get hold of a piece of paper. We see this process as a quality-enhancing development that will heighten both our current performance and our future market potential. That is why we’re taking on this extra effort in just the second year of our existence and in spite of the workload based on order placements.”
