Magenta Research Expands Voyager Series with Small Form-Factor 48-port Fibre Switch

Voyager VG-Matrix 48, which switches HD video, audio and serial, will be demonstrated for the first time at xSolutions 2011

New Milford, CT, USA, 19 September 2011 – Magenta Research, a pioneer in pro-AV signal distribution, extension and switching over Cat5/CatX cable and optical fibre, today announced the latest addition to its award-winning Voyager Fibre Optic Signal Distribution Platform. The Voyager VG-Matrix 48 is a 48-port full matrix switching solution, offering a smaller, more compact solution than the existing 160-port Voyager VG-Matrix 160. See a first time demonstration of the Voyager VG-Matrix 48 on Stand B30 at xSolutions 2011 taking place 19-29 October at ExCeL, London.

When combined with Voyager transmitters and receivers, a complete Voyager system allows analogue or digital video (with HDCP), plus audio and RS-232 signals, to be extended and/or distributed over single mode fibre (to distances of 30km) or multimode fibre (to distances of 2km). Voyager also converts analogue video inputs to digital, allowing signals to be outputted via an HDMI or DVI connection for additional system streamlining.

The Voyager VG-Matrix 48 takes up only 5U of rack space and can be outfitted with up to six I/O cards (with 8-ports each). In simplex mode (no HDCP and unidirectional RS-232), a fully populated VG-Matrix 48 switch operates as a 48x48. In duplex mode (required for HDCP or bidirectional RS-232), Magenta’s “Flex I/O” technology is enabled, allowing each port on the switch’s 8-port I/O cards to be utilised as an input or an output (i.e. 1x47, 2x46, 3x45, 47x1, 46x2, 45x3… etc.), delivering a fully flexible switching system that can easily adapt to changing requirements.

The VG-Matrix 48 also features dual power supplies for redundancy, a removable air filter, and comes with Magenta’s proprietary MagUI software, a PC-based configuration and switch control system designed specifically for Voyager systems.
