Capacitive Keypad with free Software and Hardware Configuration
Press release from: MENTOR GmbH & Co. Präzisions-Bauteile KG
MENTOR’s capacitive keypad opens up every opportunity for free and intuitive configuration of hardware and software according to the do-it-yourself principle. The focus is on the simple individualisation possibilities for customer-specific product solutions.
The capacitive keypad is composed of an interface board with intuitively operable programming software and capacitive control membranes. The keypad can be adapted in form and function directly by the customer; the customer can create the control panel of his choice by cutting the capacitive membranes into the desired form using a pair of scissors. By means of a configuration tool the interface board software can be adapted to meet the specific requirements.
With this keyboard ideas can be experimentally implemented and variables directly evaluated and adapted during the prototyping phase of a project. These customer-developed ways of solving software and hardware problems, serve Mentor at a later stage as default preferences for tailor-made series production of the capacitive keypads. The advantages: low development and initial costs, saving of resources and fast adaptation periods for a cost-effective development process.
The capacitive membranes are available in two versions, either as polymer or silver oxide membranes. The transparent polymer membrane is suitable for design applications with possible backlight effects, whereas the silver oxide membrane is used for applications with a very high level of sensitivity to touch. Both types of membrane are available either as a matrix (8x8 keypad) or as single touch keys (2x8 keys).
For the simple fixation of functions, there is an adhesive layer at the front with which the membrane can easily be adapted to curved surfaces. Mounted under glass or plastic, the capacitive keys are protected against vandalism, erosive external influences and chemicals. They are also insensitive to water and contamination through grease or dust.
This makes them suitable for application in both industry and biomedical engineering as well as for meeting challenges in the public sector (facility management, drinks dispensers, ATMs, multimedia terminals etc.).
As an internationally successful corporate group, MENTOR has been setting standards in the technical development and implementation of mechanical, electronic and optoelectronic components for diverse areas of application in industry for decades.
Since it was founded in 1920, the company has expanded continuously and is currently 100% family owned. With its head office in Erkrath, the MENTOR Group has subsidiaries in Germany, Tunisia, China, and Poland. In addition, the group of companies is currently represented internationally through its 20 agencies.
Quality assurance is guaranteed by means of an integrated management system and selected verification processes. All production plants and partner companies are certified and subject to regular audits. MENTOR itself is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001, DIN EN ISO 14001 and ISO/TS 16949.
