Hotels in London For The National Gallery of Art Exhibition: Sir Charles Eastlake

Press release from: LUX
This summer 2011, the history of the National Gallery will be exposed in Room 1. Art for the Nation will present the very first Director of the Gallery: Sir Charles Lock Eastlake (1793–1865), a personality characterized by one contemporary as the ‘Master and Chief’ of the Victorian art universe. The exposition will feature a small number of Eastlake’s acquisitions of Italian Renaissance art and will also exhibit, using rare pieces from the Gallery’s archive and library, the measure to which Eastlake worked behind the scenes for the National Gallery.

Eastlake, has radically changed not only the assignment of labors but also how they were suspend. Instead of showing the compositions fortuitously along loaded walls, he had them arranged in chronological order and by country, in suitable rather than homogeneous frames and behind glass to avoid deterioration from “frequenters emanations”.

Sir Charles Eastlake is commemorated today, but he was between the biggest art collectors the National Gallery ever had. His accomplishment in hunting Europe during the mid-19th century to delivering 150 masterpieces to London is to be noticed this week with an exhibition of some of the nonpareil assets he acquired.
