TuneUp Offers Tips to Tackle One of the Top PC Performance Killers – Low Disk Space
Press release from: TuneUp Corporation
PR Agency: March Communications
MIAMI, Florida, July 21, 2011
What: No matter how fast a user’s PC is, low disk space can slow any computer down, especially newer ones with fast, solid-state drives (SSDs). In fact, low disk space is typically the #1 reason for a sluggish machine, and one that is even overlooked by IT pros.
Windows and most third-party programs need disk space to breathe—for example, Windows needs space for its paging file, which extends a PC’s physical memory (RAM) in case it runs out. When there is low disk space, the paging file can’t grow when required and impacts PC performance. Low disk space can also reduce SSDs’ speed, as it requires these flash-based disks to read single data cells into memory before writing new data. This will even crash read/write performance.
On its blog, TuneUp details why low disk space significantly slows down programs, increases load times and causes dozens of error messages. The company also explains how SSDs are particularly affected by this issue. TuneUp offers users several tips for how to quickly regain gigabytes of data and improve PC performance.
Who: Any PC user with Windows 7, Vista or XP who is looking to solve issues with low disk space and improve his or her computer’s performance. The tips are easily understood by anyone, regardless of technical background.
